Device Requirements

 

PrivacyStar works with most current devices and operating systems.  We are constantly working to provide as many features to all devices as possible.  There are some restrictions on specific devices, operating systems, and carriers that limit some features.  Below is a list current device requirements and known restrictions on specifc devices and for specific features.  Please be sure to test PrivacyStar on your device during the free trial period. 

 

Android

The PrivacyStar Android application requires an Android device running OS 1.6 or higher.

The OS version on your device can be located in the About Phone section in settings.

1. From the home screen press menu
2. Select the settings icon (typically a gear)
3. Select About Phone
4. Typically the OS is listed as Firmware Version or OS version

BlackBerry

The PrivacyStar BlackBerry application requires a Blackberry device running OS 4.5 or higher. If you are unsure of your device model, please follow these easy steps to find out:

1. Select "options" from your desktop (this is typically a "wrench" icon)
2. Select "About"
3. Your device name/model will be displayed on the first line
4. Your Operating System (OS) is on the 3rd line down. It must be v4.5.x.xx or above

The BlackBerry model numbers 8330 and above have been tested with PrivacyStar running Blackberry OS 4.5 or higher. Not all models are compatible with all features.  Please be sure to test functionality during the free trial.  Below is a list of current restrictions on devices 8330 and higher. 

Style 9670 - Blocking not supported when device closed. 

 

Caller ID

Caller ID requires a supported device and simultanious voice and data connections at the time of the call.  GSM based cell networks support simultanious voice and data when on 3G.  CDMA based cell networks support simultanious voice and data when on 4G.  Simultanious voice and data can also be acheived with a cell voice connection and an active WiFi connection.

Caller ID is currently supported on all versions of Android OS 1.6 and higher and most BlackBerry OS 5 versions.  Caller ID is currently not possible on BlackBerry OS 4 or 6 due to restrictions in the operating system.
